I have a desktop for the house. My daughter has purchased a Dell Ispiron 1501 laptop. We bought a Netgear Wireless-G Router (WGR614) which came w/ no instructions. My question is this: the router came w/ an instillation cd %26amp; i need to know do i load the cd to my desktop or to the laptop OR to both of them?

I believe that i have to connect the cord that came w/ the router to the cable modem (in the ethernet port) %26amp; the other end into the router.

OK now what? Please help I am so computer illeterate w/ how to hook things up!! I feel so dumb!! Auggggggg someone please help me!!

Most ISP (cable) are easy to set up, the installation CD is usually used on the PC that can get online through the modem - pop it in and folloe instructions or you can try the following:

1.) Power off both modem and router.

2.) Plug the ethernet cable from your modem to the internet port of the router and one computer to one of the 4 ports (preferably the PC that's already wired to the modem using an ethernet cable).

3.)Power up modem, wait for the light to stabilize (or when ';online'; light is lit) - this indicates your modem has established communication to your ISP.

4.)Power up your router. Check if the wired PC is online no need for the installation CD.

Your wireless laptop should be able to detect and connect to your wireless network,

Oh yeah, some ISPs (partricularly most cable companies) need MAC cloning... if you still can't get online through the router but can with one of your computers when plugged in to the modem, try this:

1.)Connect the same PC that can get online through the modem to your router, go to the router's Setup page and look for the utility page where you can do a ';Mac Clone';.

2.)Save your settings.

You can contact Netgear's techsupport 1-888-METGEAR or 1-888-6384327 (as per their website). How to connect a wireless router to a cable modem?
Yeah, you have to connect the cord to the Ethernet cord. For the modem you use the usb cord. Yeah u r prtty much rite with wut u said u believe.
hook an Ethernet cable into one of the Ethernet ports on the back of the router and connect it to your laptop.open a web browser and in the address bar type 192.168.1.1,that will prompt you for a login and password. It is usually admin for both.Go into the options and equip either wpa or wep security, write down the security key, name your wireless network and click done.Your router will reboot to reflect the changes.Next go into your wireless card network manager, click your network, enter the wep or wpa security key and connect.
