How to hook up external hard drive to wireless router?

My internet box and wireless router is in a room with no computers attached to it. All our computers are either wired up to the router or wireless. I attached my western digital external hard drive to the router via a usb connection. However, I can't seem to access the files on the hard drive. Where do I find the hard drive on my computer which is wired to the router. Thanks! How to hook up external hard drive to wireless router?
A hard drive will not work by a USB port over a wireless router. It either has to have a special interface box, or be a unit with an ethernet card build into it, not a USB.

What you can do is to attach the USB drive to any computer on the network, and then set up the ';Sharing'; on the drive. That will make it visible to all the computers on the network. It will work the same, and just as fast, as if it was connected to the router, but does not require the adapter. The computer acts as the adapter for you.How to hook up external hard drive to wireless router?
Your drive either needs to be network compatible or you need an interface. Simply connecting the USB port won't do this. You need to use one of the ethernet ports and a ';normal'; hard drive doesn't have one.
