How many computers can be connected to the Internet using a wireless router?

I have a Comcast provided wireless router at home.

4 of us can surf the net with no problems. However a 5ht and a 6th computer cannot be used to connect to the Internet. Is there an upper limit on how many computers can talk to the Internet when one uses a wireless router? Or is there something we are doing that is not right?How many computers can be connected to the Internet using a wireless router?

You should be able to connect all of your computers to the same router. Try turning off one or two of the computers you already know work to see if the 5th and 6th will connect. If they do then yes your router strangely can only handle 4. If it still doesn't work then you are doing something wrong in the inital connection. Good luck!
i belive its 5 for a basic brodband servace, thats what i have.
ideally, it should be able to give you 256 network connections...remember the ip numbers? normally 192.168.XXX.XXX the numbers go from 0 to 256 and the ip is given either by the router or the server, but in a basic router configuration is router.



if you are using the settings that came from factory, your router probably have a a setting that reads something like ';starting IP'; and ';ending IP'; and those are the setting that limit how many pc can be connected to such network at same time.



On the other hand, when you have either DSL or cable, you have a limited amount of BANDWIDTH, which limits the speed of the internet connection to each computer, if you have more than 4 and all of you are downloading something at same time... that could probably be your problem, like noted by the other answers, it also depends on the brand and quality of your router.

Routers have a limit on how many computers they can support. You can either buy more routers or a router that supports connecting more computers to the internet.
Make your DHCP scope in your wireless router as big as you can. Many limit it. The solution is to use a different DHCP server and not the one on the router.
It will depend on the specific model and manufacturer. Do you have a Linksys, Netgear or other wireless router?



For example, some Linksys routers allow 60 connections, while others may only allow 5.

Depends on the router. Some only allow 5 people. Some allow up to 64. Plus you can always daisy chain more together to make a larger network.
