Im getting a laptop soon and I dont wanna fuss with a router or a wireless connect card. And im only planning on keeping it in one room most of the time, can I just hook it up to a cable and get internet?How to get wired internet to a laptop without a router.?

plug ethernet cable into slot provided on laptop. If wire was connected to something else prior then reset modem. to reset modem unplug modem and leave it unplugged for 1-5 minutes. plug it back in and wait for lights to begin flashing the way they were before you started messing with it.
If you are gonna buy internet, you will be given a modem, which has only one spot for wired internet. So if you are the only one that will be using it, then you can just connect it with a wire and there you go.
You can install a second ethernet card (NIC) on your main computer and use Internet Conneciton Sharing in Windows.
