How do i enable upnp with my linksys router?

I am trying to enable upnp for my linksys wrt54g router but I can't figure out how to get to router configuration. I tried going to http://192.168.1.1 but i coudln't log in or anything when i did the blank username and admin as password. Can anyone help? How do i enable upnp with my linksys router?
Ask the person that set up your router for the password that they set.

If you set it up and didn't set wireless security, then one of your neighbors was more industrious than you and changed the password on you.

You'll have to reset the router to factory defaults and set it up again, but this time in addition to uPnP, also enable wireless security and change the admin password. How do i enable upnp with my linksys router?
Go up to your address bar %26lt;%26gt; type in 192.168.5.1 When it ask for you user name and password, forget about user name, just type in admin %26lt;%26gt; hit enter
The username is probably 'admin' or 'linksys'. Follow the directions in your manual.

How to connect to the internet using a laptop and an Arris router?

We've recently ordered service from Time Warner, and they set up our TVs and PC, but we are now trying to connect our laptop to the internet as well. The router they gave us is made by Arris. I plugged in the ethernet cable, but it didn't work. I checked into drivers, and it said that one is not needed for Vista. What do I do to get the laptop online? Thanks. How to connect to the internet using a laptop and an Arris router?
Arris USB Driver for Windows Vista running in 32-bit mode is included with Windows Vista. There is no downloaded necessary. You may check with Time Warner whether you need a new router.

What do I look for in an internet router, and how to set it up?

I want to stay in touch with my friends and cousins stationed overseas, and we spend time together by playing World of Warcraft. My roommates have DSL, and I offered to split the bill if I can use their DSL line. I want to buy a wireless internet router and connector for my computer. What should I look for in a router, and can I get tips on how to set it up?What do I look for in an internet router, and how to set it up?
Basically, routers that supports 802.11g like Linksys WRT54g and a wireless adapter card or USB wireless adapter.

Configure first the router by connecting it to a computer via LAN cable on any 4 port available. There should be an instruction on the manual on how to configure your router.

After doing so, connect the DSL connection cable of your roommate to the internet port of the router, and another cable for his pc.What do I look for in an internet router, and how to set it up?
go linksys. they are the best and easiest to set up. but as with all routers plan on replacing about every 3-4 yrs
Linksys routers and adapters are very good setup is very easy you have to bridge the modem first just call the isp tech support and they can walk you through it some models have a one touch button that sets them up automatically
well, you should consider speed and signal strength output of the router...for small areas wireless g is good, for faster speed and moderate distances wireless g plus, probably consider N or mimo for faster speed or huge ranges...also look for wep/wpa and firewall for security so no 1 will hack into ur network, consider a good brand...i just got so iono about setting it up

How do I keep my router (2nd cmoputer) to not get disconnected when the computer goes to stand by?

I have a wireless router for the 2nd computer that always offs whenever I stay away for too long. This affects my AIM because it causes the AIM to sign off (because theres no internet connection). How can I stay online while the computer is in standby? How do I keep my router (2nd cmoputer) to not get disconnected when the computer goes to stand by?
Standby is sort of like turning off your computer. You can't stay online in standby. If you want to stay online, turn off standby from the power management screen and just shut your monitor off.How do I keep my router (2nd cmoputer) to not get disconnected when the computer goes to stand by?
You can do what arbitrage said, or you can just disable your ethernet card from sleeping so that that part of your compute is still active.
When the macine goes into standby, the NIC will cease to function. Disable standby and hibernation to keep the link live.

Sorry, just re-read your question. Most likely your wireless router is using PPPoE to connect. Those connections will shut down after a period of non-use. There should be a setting in the PPPoE configuration page in the router setup called ';keep alives'; or something similar. Enable that, and if it lets you set a time period go with 5 minutes.

If your router doesn't have that setting (very rare) or you can't find it, you'll need to fool the system into thinking you're still on line. That's pretty easy. Leave your e-mail client running and set it to check for new mail every 5 minutes. You will have to disable standby and hibernation modes for this workaround to work.

Yes.... However you should not make a cut over 1/2 inch (or the thickness of the bit) at 1 pass. The less you ';take off'; the smoother the cut.

How do I connect my Linksis WRT160N router to my Linksis WGA600N gaming adapter?

Can anyone help me?How do I connect my Linksis WRT160N router to my Linksis WGA600N gaming adapter?
Understand that networking is probably the single most challenging thing an end-user can attempt with a home computer so you'll need to do some research, but I'll try and give you a few starter tips.

    http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wirel

This page is specific to your WGA600n Gaming Adapter, and has a ';guide me'; function which I'm assuming will give you all the step-by-step instructions you will need. I entered the question ';how can I connect this device to my router?'; and got several viable responses.

How to make sure whether a wireless router is compatible with my modem?

I'm using a D-link modem, and hope to buy a wireless router when I go to China (I'm in New Zealand) as it's a lot cheaper to get it from there, but how do I know if a router is compatible with my current modem?

    Modem details:

    Model: DSL-502T

    H/W Version: A5

    F/W Version:V3.00B01T01.TX

Thanks. How to make sure whether a wireless router is compatible with my modem?
You won't have a problem with a modem-router combo, almost all modems are compatible with all routers as long as they both have ethernet WAN ports. I would be more concerned about your DSL modem working on the Chinese ';Internet';. If I were you I would get a hold of whatever Chinese ISP you plan on using when you get to China and ask if your modem will work on their network. And if they do not offer DSL in that area of China and if you are forced to use fiber or cable then you will need a different modem altogether... the router should be the least of your concerns. How to make sure whether a wireless router is compatible with my modem?

How do you find the distance to your wireless router?

I lost my ipod touch. I know it is somewhere static. I know it accessed my gmail account at about 7:30. Is there a way that i can tell how far from the wireless router that signal was sent? If i knew the distance then there would be a circle of places that it could be, right? Any program or application within the router. I have a linksys WRT54G router. How do you find the distance to your wireless router?
I'd bet on 50 to 75 feet, but its hard to tell. I mean if its through lots of thick walls, it could be much closer. If its in a wide open barn, it could be much farther away. If you're sure it is within your router range, I'd just start looking around everywhere.

Start with in between seat cushions. I know a guy who swears there are Lorenz invariences (Non-Einsteinian gravitational nonconformities) around seat cushions which cause all manner of things to get sucked in, and while I disagree about the physics, I can't discount the fact that lots of stuff seems to get under seat cushions, with little rational explanation. The laundry hamper is a good place to check too, as long as it doesn't end up wherever the disappearing socks go.

If you're interested in better wireless internet, check out WiMax from Clear. It is only in Portland, Oregon right now, but it is coming to other cities soon. It is superfast and you can walk pretty much anywhere in the metro area and have wireless. (Never tried inside a bank vault, but it works in the subway.) http://www.clear.com/?utm_source=bcHow do you find the distance to your wireless router?
If your ipod touch was on your gmail account about 7:30, without checking the router logs you wouldn't know that it actually accessed your router.

If it can use your Linksys router, especially the basic model, it is within 200 feet max. However, it's likely much closer- because 200 feet is a large range for a basic router and at that range the speed would be close.

Have you tried looking for the iPod Touch? If it's not moving then you're more likely to find it.

How to know my router is broadcasting wireless N ?

I have a NETGEAR WNR834Bv2 Wireless N router. My mom's computer is on the other side of the house, and has a N wireless card. However, when checking her connection it is very low and her wireless manager software says its broadcasting at wireless G. What do I do? How to know my router is broadcasting wireless N ?
She is nearly out of range so her connection drops back to G standard. You need to improve the location of the router, as high as possible and well clear of obstructions. Moving her machine may help. If nothing else works you may need to buy a wireless range extender to mount between the router and the machine. Even at 54Mbps G standard it should be much faster than your internet connection, though. How to know my router is broadcasting wireless N ?
Try boot into your wireless router. You can do this by typing in the IP Address of the router on a pc that is connected via ethernet to the router via a web browser.

Look for something such as WLAN / Wireless on the menu that should appear.

You may see a drop down box that allows you to choose what type you want to use e.g 802.11b/g %26amp; 802.11n

Select .11n and you should be good to go.

I hope this helps, im not a wireless expert :(

EDIT: Isnt ';N'; meant to be twice the range of standard B %26amp; G? I dont know, if someone knew the frequencies... could you please tell me?
Has this ever worked at N speeds?

I would log into the router and check the wireless settings to make sure that N hasn't been turned off.

I would then go to mom's computer and download the latest drivers for her adapter. Is she also Netgear? Remove the card under Devices in the Control Panel (Don't pull the card from machine) Or pull the USB device. Install the new drivers. Then reinstall the device and check the connection.

You should be at N speeds.

  • How To Ping From a Wireless Computer to a Wired Computer using a Linksys Router?

I want to be able to ping and connect to my downstairs computer. Currently I am using a wireless laptop, which is connected wirelessly to my Linksys router. My downstairs computer is directly connected to the same router. How do I ping the downstairs computer? How To Ping From a Wireless Computer to a Wired Computer using a Linksys Router?
Ping (IP Address of downstairs computer)

If you are on the same network you should be able to ping. Check the IP address of both machines. If the subnet mask is for instance 255.255.255.0 and the first three octets of the IP address on both machines are the same they are on the same network.

IE if your downstairs machine is 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 and your upstairs machine is 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0 they are on the same subnet and ping should work. Wireless is just a layer 1/2 technology and can be thought of as just another way of connecting. It should not affect ping unless there is something blocking pings (IE a firewall on the downstairs machine, a feature in the Linksys ).How To Ping From a Wireless Computer to a Wired Computer using a Linksys Router?
First off, you need to go to your wireless router page, probably ';192.168.1.1'; but it may be something else. then go to your wan settings, and make sure you have the router set to respond to pings. then, i suggest you go to your dhcp and make at least your desktop have a reserved ip address. Then take that ip address and use it to ping form your laptop. it should work whether or not you use your global ip address, or your local one.

How do I set up my wireless router to work with Bittorrent?

I understand that to achieve decent up/down speeds, I need to configure my router's ports somehow. I've successfully set up my router, so at least I know *that much* but getting ';up to speed'; with torrents is confusing me. Thanks! How do I set up my wireless router to work with Bittorrent?
Portforward.com has a large listing of guides for this. Choose your make and model and then the bittorrent program you have and you will get a guide specific to your modem and program.

which router you are using ?How is it possible to reset a router over the internet, when no connection is present?
You can reset a router by physically pressing the reset button.

Or you can connect to the router via Ethernet cable or the Internet and reset things.

    But that is it!

    Apart from magic, obviously.
The only way to connect to a router is by either using a CAT5 (network) cable and plugging directly into the device localy, via a wireless connection locally or if the router has remote admin set up which would allow you to admin the device over the internet.
    RESET IT!!
plug in a second ethernet cable into one of the external ports on the router and plug the other end into your comp, you will know be able to access the routers interface

    Apologies, I'm new to networking.

Anyway, could anyone tell me how to access the logs for my wireless router? I'm using a linksys wireless router with AT%T, and while I can get to the configuration page for the router, I can't figure out how to view gateway logs. Could anyone help me with this? How can I access the logs on my wireless router?
first you have to enable event logs in the admin settings.

then you have to set the file limits and folder options.

then you have to have an event occur.

then you access the files.(in the gui)How can I access the logs on my wireless router?
The memory on your wireless router would be really limited to enable gateway logs. It would atmost have the last 20-30 logs. I dont think that would be enough to do anything. If you can let me know your router model number and how much loging you want and for what purpose i can give a better answer.

How To Ping From a Wireless Computer to a Wired Computer using a Linksys Router?

How can I connect a wired printer to my wireless network using a wireless router?

I have a wireless network: a wireless modem connected to a DSL line that connects wirelessly to my computer. My printer has a wired ethernet port. I have a spare router with wireless capability that I could connect to this printer. Without wiring my printer to my modem (they are in different rooms), can I use this router to get my wireless printer to talk to my computer - either via the modem or directly to my wireless card in my compter - whatever is possible. Thanks! How can I connect a wired printer to my wireless network using a wireless router?
If you have a network printer you can get adapters that will convert a wired ethernet port in to a wireless solution. You can also get a wireless print server to connect the printer across the network with no PC needed.

Using the advice above, keep in mind the PC that you want to share the printer from must be on at all times or no one will be able to print. How can I connect a wired printer to my wireless network using a wireless router?
Yes and No. If you use the spare router with your printer, you will have 2 wireless networks. (Don鈥檛 make the mistake of setting both wireless routers with the same SSID, then nothing will work right.) You could do this, but then you would have to switch between both networks, depending on whether you want to print or be on the internet - pretty klugy and bothersome.

Some routers can act as a relay agent, but it not common. You would have to check the setup options. Your best bet would be to pickup a wireless print server.
Unless your printer will accept a wireless card it will not work...You can hard wire it to atleast one comptuer and share the printer on the network. Then every computer on the network can print from the same printer...Very easy to set up and you can find it on microsoft website for setting up a network printer...Thanks
    Go to Fry's Electronics store.

Ask two or three different knowledgeable sales people how to do this.

Buy at least two different ways of doing what you want with the understanding that if either does not work for you, you can bring it back.

Read the back of your receipt carefully and follow restrictions completely and to the letter.

Return the components in a ready to re-sell condition for a full refund.

There is a reset button on the back of the unit for times like these! Use a paperclip to push the button.
Hold in the reset button on the back for 20 seconds.
    what kind of router??

maybe unplugging it for about 10 min let it reset might help.
There is a reset button either in the back or on the front of the router.
You can usually press and hold a button on the router to reset it...typically its a pin-hole button located somewhere on the router. Most problems can be solved by simply unplugging a plugging it back in, but if its something more dire, let me know the details and I can see if I can help you resolve it.

If I understand right, yes, I think you need to get an ethernet cable. Just use it to connect the LAN port of your PC to one of the ports on the router. If the router is already working for other PC's, then it will probably just work with your new PC.
I think, yes. You need to get ethernet cable.

How to configure cisco router in the first?

I have cisco router swench I need to configur ti in the first time, and I need to use it in the local natwork. How I can do this? How to configure cisco router in the first?
The Cisco router will have a Console port on it somewhere. Along with the router you would also have received something called a 'roll-over' cable (Cisco terminology for a custom serial cable). They are usually a flat, light blue cable. You need to connect one end to the console port on the Cisco router and the other end to your PC. Then using something like Hypertem or Tutty you would connect to the router and configure it.

Some Cisco devices have a built in http server which you can enable through the console port (you'll also need to allocate and IP address). Then you'll be able to setup the Cisco router over http (via a web browser).

There are lots of examples on Google. Here's one.

    --------------------------------------鈥?br>
do you have a wireless network setup on your router for your laptop to connect to?

is that router delivering NAT %26amp; DHCP services to the computers on your internal network?

So in general you have your cable / dsl modem which is supplied by your ISP. Most people have a second device which is a router that intercepts the connection from the ISP, or rather you plug the cat 5 / or telephone cord into the router. The router in turn does network address translation and dynamic host configuration protocol services. It takes the Internet IP given to you by the ISP on one interface and NAT delivers whatever traffic intended to that to devices on your internal network that were configured by DHCP (or static IP addressing if you choose.) Secondly, common home routers have switch ports on the back which you can use to test if you are facing a wireless issue or a connectivity issue. Try cabling the laptop to your ';router'; and restarting the network or rebooting if you must. when you reboot try your HTTP requests through Firefox/IE if you are connected you likely have mis configured wireless or are not connected wireless at all. If you still can't connect try statically assigning the PC an IP on your private network, one that isn't in use. Then restart networking/reboot and try back if you still aren't connected, you likely don't have the configuration i previously mentioned. How do I get my laptop to connect with my router?
    Hi

Though your wireless finds the connection the router is unable to provide the IP to your Laptop. First connect the RJ45 or USB cable to your Laptop from the Router. Then access the routers GUI (The address should be somewhat like 192.168.1.1, should be behind your router) and check the wireless and LAN settings. Check if the DHCP is turned on. Check if the settings in the wireless match your Laptop, i.e., the WEP key, or authentication using MAC address, Check if the MAC address saved in the router is as same as the one in the Wireless adapter of your Laptop. This will surely help. Also check if there is any IP address configured in your laptop's wireless card. You can check by going to Network Connections via control panel and then right click on the wireless LAN, click on properties, then TCP/IP properties and check the IP there. If its manually entered then change it to automatic (both IP and DNS).
If you have connected the router to your main computer, get your laptop on internet explorer not mozila, go my network connections , then search for your network, select ur network and connect, name ur connection, set as home use and if your router has a passcode, be sure to type it in. Now if your connection doesn't work, restart ur computer and reconnect. :) I hope I helped byee
